About us

Since 1985,
one job

Bringing blades back to a working edge. No workshop, no practice, and no damage to the edge along the way. That is what this company has worked on for four decades, and on nothing else.

The range has stayed narrow in that time: four devices, plus spare parts. What works gets improved, not replaced.

When frustration
became a mechanism

A good knife goes dull, the whetstone stays in the drawer, and ten minutes of practice leave the edge worse than before. In 1985 that led to a device that takes over the hardest part: the angle.

On a stone your hand has to hold that angle along the whole blade, pass after pass, to within a degree or two. That is pure practice. Vulkanus takes it out of your hand and puts it into the mechanism.

Sharp,
without practice

You pull the blade through, the sharpening elements sit fixed at the set angle. The result is there in seconds and it repeats, the tenth time exactly like the first.

On the VG2 the way you hold it decides the step: tip down sharpens, tip up hones, flat polishes. Three operations in one device, plain edges as well as serrated ones.

Protected
where it counts

How the sharpening elements are mounted decides whether a device works or damages the blade. That is exactly what is patented: the European holding system since 2024, the single-point mounted version in the United States since 2025. Further applications are pending in Europe, the United States and China.

The elements reach 93 HRC. They remove material without putting heat into the blade and leave no scratches. Protection for the current family runs to the end of the 2030s.

Built
to stay

Sharpening elements wear out, that is normal. With us you replace them instead of throwing the device away. Spare parts are kept in stock permanently, and every device carries a two-year warranty.

Even the first generation of devices still has a spare part set of its own. Since July 2026 the European right to repair has required what has applied here for forty years.

From Hallein
into the world

A new generation has led the company since December 2025, when Harald Stallegger Schärftechnik became Vulkanus GmbH. The product did not change, that was the condition.

From Hallein near Salzburg we supply specialist retailers and importers in more than ten European countries and in North America: kitchen retail, hunting and outdoor, hospitality and the butchery trade.
